IN THIS PLACE, ST. ANTHONY SHRINE,
THE DOORS ARE OPEN AND ALL ARE WELCOME!

Dear Friends,

In this place, God is worshiped with music and preaching, people are reconciled to God, and the sick are comforted with the blessed oil of the Sacrament of the Sick.

In this place, the young and the elderly are fed and nourished, health of soul and body is promoted, addictions are dealt with, the rejected are welcomed and the unwanted dead are buried with dignity and prayer.

In this place, the Franciscan Friars open their community to the thousands who come to the Shrine for so many needs. Like the Friars of the past, tradition moves us again to ask for your prayers, and your financial help -- "to keep the doors in this place open."

Please help us by giving generously through our Franciscan Campaign 2008.

May God bless you with the same generosity you bestow on us.

Fr. David, OFM

Your Spiritual Home
Often called an "oasis in the City of Boston," the Shrine is open 7 days a week and 365 days each year for Worship, Reconciliation, quiet reflection, and Franciscan community. More than 250,000 people on weekdays and 400,000 people on weekends make the Shrine their spiritual home.

HELP US KEEP THESE DOORS OPEN

Lazarus
This past year the Shrine buried 30 men, women, and, for the first time, children as part of our Lazarus Program offering dignified funerals and burials for Boston’s poor and "unwanted" dead.
Evangelization
Evangelization ministries of St. Anthony Shrine this past year included outreach programs for gays and lesbians, divorced and separated Catholics, an Hispanic Ministry, Ministry of the Good Word, and social and spiritual groups for young adults. Personifying the Franciscan "All Are Welcome" mission, this ministry touches many lives every year.

Reconciliation
Offering more hours of reconciliation than any other church in the diocese, our Franciscan friars heard more than 3000 weekend and 7000 weekday confessions in the Sacrament of Reconciliation this past year.

Spiritual Direction
More than 100 group meetings and 4000 hours of spiritual support and comfort were provided last year by the Shrine’s professionally trained Spiritual Directors.

Seniors
The Shrine offered more than 45 programs enjoyed by 2400 individuals this past year as part of its popular ministry to area seniors. In addition, our seniors enjoyed four cruises, two bus trips and several summer and winter concerts.

Wellness
The Shrine’s Wellness Center had one of its busiest years ever as it served nearly 3000 people with flu and pneumonia shots; dental, eye, cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar screenings; and educational special events featuring sun safety and colon disease prevention. For the first time ever it provided free mammograms and PSA screening for those in need. The Shrine’s Wellness Center is also open on weekends.

Fr. Mychal Judge Center for Recovery
Ministering to those in need of substance abuse counseling and support, our Fr. Mychal Judge Center for Recovery held more than 425 counseling sessions and supported more than 10 families in 2007. In addition, the Center provided a group retreat that benefited more than 40 individuals.
Bread on the Common
The Shrine’s newest ministry invites volunteers to come to the Shrine to prepare food packets, then visit with homeless persons on Boston Common and in Downtown Crossing streets offering food, socks, knitted hats, scarves, mittens, prayer and conversation.

St. Anthony Bread For The Poor
Based on the longstanding Franciscan tradition of thanking St. Anthony for favors granted, this ministry provides funding for all of the Shrine’s outreach programs.
Kids
During this past year the Shrine’s KIDS’ Program provided fun programs and hot meals for more than 200 families and 1400 children. In addition, the program provided Christmas gifts and school supplies for all our KIDS’ as well as many special events.

Music
Ten professional musicians, as part of our "Arch Street Band," perform at eight Masses every weekend, as well as holy days, Lazarus funerals, Kids’ Programs, Seniors’ Programs, and many other special events. Last year the Arch Street Band Music Ministry recorded and produced two cd’s of their uplifting, contemporary Christian music, now available for sale.

All donations made to St. Anthony Shrine and the friars support our Arch Street ministries. For your convenience, St. Anthony Shrine accepts pledges and/or donations through cash, checks, credit cards, and securities. We also offer online giving and a Franciscan giving center in our lobby, which accepts debit and credit cards. Please remember St. Anthony Shrine in your annuity and estate and will planning.

The Shrine neither gives nor receives any funding from the Archdiocese of Boston.

PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY TO THE 2008 FRANCISCAN CAMPAIGN!
